PORT OF MAYOTTE

PORT OF LONGONI

The port of Longoni began its operations in 1992 following its abilility to protect its water depth. Today, it accomodates two docks that have been subject to heavy investments since 2013 in terms of human, infrastructure, logistics and security. Indeed, the port wants to position itself as a major player in regional trade. Its geographical features and its status as a French and European port, allows the port to play a strategic role in the maritime trade through the Mozambique Channel. This channel is a key gateway for shipowners linking Africa and Asia at a time when the volume of trade between the two continents is constantly growing (7 to 9% per year). Port activities are thus booming, due particularly to container ships which account for 65% of the traffic. For the first time in 2017, port handling tonnage reached the million milestone. By 2023, the port of Longoni aims to double its traffic by consolidating the current dynamism through training, improved plant and equipment, employment, and new logistic platforms.
