TRAINING

APIOI, which promotes cooperation between the ports of the region, has set up, in partnership with UCCIOI, a shared training plan for all member ports. The challenge is to develop partnership ties between the ports, as well as innovative and modern technologies to improve staff knowledge and skills in order to refine the image and performance of each port.

Following a study carried out in collaboration with the Human Resource Departments of the ports, we were able to identify the priority needs in competences as follows :

  • ISPS safety and security
  • Navigation and communication techniques approaching the ports
  • The economic approach

As part of the Indian Ocean Trade Capacity Building Program (PRCC-OI), the French Development Agency finances the ports safety and security training which is provided by the Port Teaching and Research Institute from Le Havre (IPER). The first session began on Monday, June 10, 2019 with an audit week of the PAIOI member ports, followed by a week of training in Mauritius, in the new Training Center of the Mauritius Ports Authority from 17 to 21 June 2019. This training is for 12 port employees from Mauritius, Reunion, Seychelles, Mayotte, Comoros (Moroni), and Madagascar (Toamasina). The second training session took place by visioconference at the end of August 2019, and the last session took place in Le Havre from September 16th to 20th.
